This is an independent art project exhibition that follows the progress of newcomers to the city (and country), how they get along learning the language and generally finding their feet in Amsterdam. It explores both "the bitter and the sweet" of picking up a new language in a foreign country. Iric Chun Watson, the artist behind the project, is a true insider amongst these Amsterdammers-to-be. Portrait photos in the gallery are supplemented by Dutch text, partially translated into English. The texts are extremely direct, in the form of questions and answers. All translated dialogue has been corrected in red pen, reminiscent of school texts. The photographed subjects, who were also interviewed, hail from nine different countries. They met for the first time at the nationalisation course where they were faced with new people and a new language in a new city. A must see for anyone interested in art, transitions and immigration! |

Come explore a world between the keys of the piano with the sounds of multiple performers! KORZO5HOOG, PAARD VAN TROJE, THEATER DE REGENTES, THEATER AAN HET SPUI. This fabulous musical programme is presented by The György Ligeti Academy, as part of Dag in de Branding, a festival for contemporary music. The György Ligeti Academy brings us the sound of a younger generation with a focus on ‘microtonality.’ You wouldn’t expect to hear it at first, but the cracks between the keys on the piano are veritable ravines. In between the twelve semi-tones of an octave lies a world made up of microtones: these nuances of intonation are easy for a violin or voice, but they have become lost and uncharted terrain for keyboard instruments by conventional tuning. The Royal Theater (Koningklijke Schouwburg) in The Hague presents the new co-production with the British Theatre Company Cheek by Jowl, whom has established an international reputation for bringing fresh perspectives to the Shakespeare classics through intense, vivid performances. A man and a woman, bound together in ambition, are destroyed in a welter of blood as Cheekby Jowl's ensemble conjures up Shakespeare's world of witchcraft, ghosts and apparitions in an hallucinatory experience of sound and shadow. English spoken. Grote Zaal, Koninklijke Schouwburg. Tickets range from 27 - 35 Euros. For reservations, please call 0900 3456789 (10cpm) or visit [ http://www.ks.nl/ ]www.ks.nl |
Content published in the following locations: External Community Activities Announcements | STET Presents The Auction, Saturday, March 6th - Sunday, March 28th, Various Times, Den Haag
The Auction by Dutch playwright Tineke Endema and performed by TUSK International Theatre Company, is a moving, close to life comedy about a wife, a dead husband and his mistress. As the wife prepares for the auction of the recently deceased husband’s belongings, the mistress claims what, she maintains, is rightfully hers. Tineke Endema's intriguing tale is the story of betrayal, scheming, love, loneliness and cat-fighting; of two women who gave all their love and most of their adult lives to a man who held secrets for them both. The Auction was first performed in 2007 at the Plantsoen Theater in Leiden in its original Dutch version. This black comedy was picked up by TUSK and STET as an example of Dutch playwriting translated beautifully into English language comedy. This performance has been made possible by the Municipality of The Hague and Pauw Sanders Zeilstra van Spaendonk – Communication Management and Public Affairs. Performances are in a temporary theatre space THE GARAGE Theatre, Korte Voorhout 20, The Hague (next to the French Embassy). NOTE due to fire regulations only 50 people can be admitted per evening.
